Been There, Done That!

I have a friend, Dee, who is an art teacher, but hasn't been able to get a full time teaching job in this area for a long time. It's so frustrating to see my friends who are teachers not able to get a job around here, especially when they are talented and definitely deserve it!! Anyway, she finally decided to take a daycare teaching position in the late summer/early fall (I can't exactly remember) last year. Since then, she has gotten sinus infections/colds at least 5 times. She's been on zpacks like crazy, which is so bad because that is such a strong antibiotic!! Well she got sick AGAIN over 2 weeks ago, and this time she had no voice, and was even worse than the other times she was sick. Her doctor gave her steroids, a nebulizer, another med, and told her to take Mucinex for the congestion. He told her not to work one week, and she decided to also take last week off. I talked to her over the weekend, and she still didn't sound 100%. But she had called her boss to find out her schedule for this week. I honestly can't believe she even considered going back to work, but she did say that she was going to give her 2 weeks notice today. THANK GOODNESS!! She had told me, also, that she has an appt with her doctor tomorrow, a follow-up. I told her she needs to ask her doctor if she should even be going back for two weeks, considering she's still pretty weak, and not totally herself, and there's a huge possibility she could catch something again! She did say she would ask him about that. So I am wondering how she did today!!

All of this reminds me of when I was so sick the last year I was teaching at Headstart. I had double pneumonia, bronchitis the second time, and was on my third major respiratory illness when my doctor gave me no choice BUT to quit my job. I still believe that if I hadn't been forced to quit, I might not be here today! It was awful! And it took me months to even get back on my feet after that year of sickness. So when Dee kept getting sick, and especially this last time, I was reliving my experience those many years ago! I honestly hope her doctor tells her not to go back to that job at all. I also hope she will take some more time to recooperate. She wants to get right back into subbing in some of the school districts, but I really think she needs more time to get her energy back. I understand there is a money issue, but I can tell anyone firsthand that you have NOTHING if you don't have your health!!

Highs And Lows

The past several days have been kinda yucky for me in some ways, and not so bad in others. Ever since the sweeping incident on Tuesday, I've been either kinda tired, really tired, or just plain exhausted. Wednesday, I was really tired, but I made a banana bread, and chatted with Euan most of the afternoon. That meant I didn't get a nap. By the time Wednesday night came around, I was rather beat. Thursday, I woke up around 1oam, which is a rare occurence, and felt like I never slept. I was so frustrated. I did put a load of laundry in, but I spent most of my day sleeping. Every time I woke up, I still didn't feel all that rested! By evening, it wasn't too bad, but still, I was rather annoyed. Friday was a bit better, I was only kinda tired. My mom came over and helped me with some things around the house, including vacuuming, changing the bedding, and Swiffering. I wanted to ask her to dust, but I thought that was pushing it. lol I did wash my dishes and cleaned all the fish while she was here. I rested a little after she left, and then I babysat for an hour. So it was a better day, that's for sure!

Today I woke up around 7:30 to take my Revatio, and use the bathroom (I got attacked by the cat on the way back to my room, good thing I was wearing my thick socks!!), and went back to bed. A few minutes later, I realized I was seeing an aura, or stars, in my left eye. Nooooooo, was my first thought! Despite covering my eyes with the blanket to make sure it was really dark, the stars kept coming stronger. Darn it, a migraine!! I laid in bed for half an hour hoping it would go away, but finally I had to just give up and went to get an Excedrin Migraine. I HATE taking that so early in the morning!! I laid back down again after, but never really got any more sleep, so I eventually got up around 9. I didn't get the headache because I took the Excedrin, but I just felt weird!!

Despite the weirdness, I did go out for awhile today. I need to pick up some meds, and after I did that, I went to my Dad's shop so he check out the odd noise I was hearing in the back of my car. Sure enough, it was what I thought. My muffler! The part that connects it broke, and it was bobbing. My Dad wired it up, but said it didn't really look like I needed a new one yet, but he'd let me know! I would get a new muffler for free, though, from the place I got one 4 years ago. I think I'd just have to pay for labor. Anyway, I hope it's not needed for now, because that's really not in my budget!

After my Dad's, I went to get my glasses fixed, since the teeny weeny little screw fell out of the right side last night, and I couldn't see out of that eye! lol I only wear my glasses to read before bed, I wear my contacts almost all the time! Then after that, I stopped by Mandy's to chat for a bit and see the kids. My niece was trying to show me kangaroo hops, and really dangerous belly flop she considered a dolphin! I was worried she'd hit her face on the floor!!

I went to another store after leaving Mandy's, but then went home after since I suddenly was tired! It was really nice to be out today, though. Even though it was still kinda chilly, the sun was brilliant and it just made it pleasant! I spent the rest of my day resting, napping, and just hanging out. I spent an hour in the dark for Earth Hour tonight, but I have to admit that I still had my computer on for it! Ooops!! lol

Anyway, it's just interesting to me how I could go from having a couple tiring days, to one day when I'm almost flat on my back resting and sleeping, and then another couple days where I'm doing ok. It's kinda aggravating sometimes. I wish it was more consistently good days! I think part of the problem is that I'm still awaiting warmer days, which are right around the corner!! I can't wait to open my windows and let some fresh air in! I can't wait until all the snow finally melts!! And TULIPS, I can't wait for those! I'll be so happy when all this stuff happens!!

Irritated!

Today I decided to sweep the kitchen floor. It so needed it, with litter from the box scattered around, and furballs in places I usually can't see until I sweep. I hate sweeping. I usually take a long time and slowly do it. It's not like I have a huge kitchen, but I purposely take at least 20-25 minutes sweeping. I was completely exhausted afterward today. It was just a little aggravating, to say the least. I did eventually lay down for a nap, but I just really hate how something that seems so simple just isn't quite that in my world.

I'm also irritated at the crap I'm seeing fall from the sky at the moment. It's half rainy, half snowy, all cold out!! When will this end?? I really don't like how early Easter was this year, because I'm totally expecting the weather to be different now, and it's just not. My only hope is that come April 1st, Mother Nature will truly decide we've had enough, and start warming the place up!!

Well I must nuke dinner now, leftovers!!!

Spring Is Here!

Well, spring is here, yes. But only on the calendar!!! It certainly doesn't feel spring-like at all here in Niagara Falls! It's been chilly, although I've been noticing more sunny days lately. However, that's not really helping heat things up! I'm so tired of being cold. I'm tired of the heat going on, tired of long underwear, tired of flannel pjs, tired of plastic over the windows!! I just can't wait for the weather to start being more consistently WARM! Easter is Sunday and it won't feel anything like it, only in spirit, really! So I guess I just need a little more patience!

Yesterday I went out with my mom. I needed some groceries, and after we shopped, my mom bought pizza and we had lunch at Mandy's house. The kids are so cute, but I admit I miss my little nephew most of all! I feel like I've been missing him growing up this winter. We spent a couple hours over there, and it was nice. I watched my nephew crawl everywhere, and pull himself up to stand against stuff, or climb. Boy, he's a fast little buggar!! LOL! No wonder Mandy has to keep her eye on him every second! He's so adorable, though! He kept smiling at me, and I just had to squeeze him a couple times, and of course, give him kisses! I'll be seeing Mandy and her family on Sunday again, so that's very exciting!

I received my prize the other day from Judi, the one I won for my date on Valentine's day! It is gorgeous!! It's so much better in person than in a picture, but I did take some pics, and I will post them soon! It's already hanging in my bedroom, and I just love going in there to look at it!

I'm about to have a little lunch, and then I need to take some pics of beads that I'd like to try selling on ebay. They are just beads I don't really plan on using, and they've been sitting around for quite awhile! I hope someone else will find some use for them!

Not too much else going on around here! Kinda boring entry! lol

Decorating My Blog!

It's almost time for me to redecorate my blog, and I'm excited about it because it's a step closer to spring!!! I know some people have been wondering how I do it. Well, it involves html. I had no idea really how to alter it until I played around with it for a long time. I don't know if I'd even be able to explain it here without completely losing someone. lol To edit html, you have to choose the Layout section. You'll see 4 sections after choosing Layout: Page Elements, Fonts and Colors, Edit Html, and Pick New Template. Choose Edit Html. Selecting this choice will show you the very large amount of codes and such that create the layout of the blog type you've picked. All the codes made absolutely no sense to me, and most of still doesn't! lol But what I figured out is that I can copy and paste html code of pictures or backgrounds from a host site like Photobucket (an account has to be created there first, but it's free) to certain parts of the html nonsense. An example of an html code that I change looks like this in the html template: http://www.blogblog.com/rounders3/corners_main_top.gif (don't try clicking on this, you most likely won't get much!). Almost any code I saw like that, I changed by using an html code from a picture or backround I liked in Photobucket. Photobucket makes up the html code for the graphic you want to use. All you have to do is choose the Direct Link choice under the graphic, it automatically highlights, and then you can paste that code over the html code (like the example above) into the html template. BEFORE hitting Save Template on the bottom of the page, I ALWAYS choose Preview to see what that new html code looks like! I'll try to list the sections of html I edit, but I know each layout is different!

*under #main-wrap1, I change the background code
*under #header-wrapper1, I change the background code
*under .profile-link, I change the background code
*under #sidebartop-wrap, I change the background code
*under #sidebarbottom-wrap2, I change the background code

I know this probably makes absolutely no sense to some people!! I thought I would just try to give a little inkling as to how I change the background on my blog!! As for the music (someone else asked me about that!), I found a site called Playlist.com, created a free account, and looked up songs on there to add to a playlist. Then I followed the directions to add that playlist to a blog, using once again, html code! lol I chose Layout, and under the Page Elements section, I picked Add a Page Element. Then I picked HTML/Javascript when the big box popped up, and pasted the code from the playlist into the blank box. And then I have music!

I guess that's it on editing. I'm sure I thoroughly bored some people in reading this! LOL

State of Disgrace

Well it's official. New York will have it's first African-American legally blind governor by Monday morning. Gov. Eliot Spitzer officially resigned this morning, apologizing to his family, and to each and every resident of NY state. I am honestly still shocked and disappointed that a man of such power and prestige has fallen from grace so rapidly. I'm disgusted at his behavior, especially since he worked so hard years ago as Attorney General to prosecute a prostitution ring. I just don't understand it!! What I also don't understand is how his wife could still be standing by his side this morning at the press conference. I feel so sorry for her and their children. I sure hope Spitzer begs and pleads for forgiveness for years to come because he sure has made an ass out of himself!!

I think the biggest disappointment is that Spitzer was sooooooo wanting to help Niagara Falls get back on it's feet with different projects that have not yet been announced. The new mayor here now has to start from ground zero in Albany with the new Governor to try to still get help with major projects. I'd like to think that soon-to-be Governor Paterson will be willing to do whatever it takes to make Niagara Falls what it used to be (obviously that'll take decades, but you've got to start somewhere!). There seems to be alot of hope with this new man in office, because he is liked by both Democrats and Republicans. So, here's hoping that Spitzer's scandal might actually be beneficial to the great state of NY!

Snowy Weekend!

Friday started off what was one of the snowiest weekends of the winter. The winter storm warning we had was finally not a dud! Niagara Falls ended up getting a little over a foot, which was not as much as some other areas around here. Some ended up with almost 2 feet! I have to admit that, as much as I desparately want the winter to end and the warmer temps to start, I enjoyed seeing all that snow! I wanted to go out and make a snow angel, but considering that I'm over pneumonia (although not over the lack of energy), I wasn't going to be stupid!! I watched my dad use the snowblower twice to clear the sidewalks. I often wish I could help shovel, but there's just no way I could do that! So today is nice and sunny, and the temps this weekend are supposed to be a little better, so I'm sure all this snow will be disappearing soon!

The amount we had reminded me of the snow we used to get when I was a little girl. Actually, I think sometimes we got more than this! My dad would plow huge snow hills into our backyard for my sisters and I to play on. We'd slide down them, roll down them, whatever! We would also take huge icicles off the house, and ones we found on the ground, and call them crystal shards (we were huge fans of The Dark Crystal! lol), and bury them in the hill. We used to be out there for what seemed like hours! Sometimes I wish we would get that much snow all the time, but thanks to global warming, we don't seem to have the storms like we used to!

Where To Start??

It seems like a ton of things happened in the past couple days! It's probably not a ton, but it's all jumbled up in my head, so I need to unload! lol

Sunday, pretty much the same as Saturday. I felt a tiny bit better, but too much. I finally finished writing down all the recipes I wanted onto cards, and filed them in the recipe box! I had to laugh, the most recipes I have are for pasta dishes, and sweets! I think the only thing I want to do to the box is glue a bead on it to make it easier to open. I have to search through my beads to see if I have one that will look nice on it! But I was happy to get the project done! I now have only one cookbook left that I bought from my church, and the box, and there is so much space on my counter!! Yay!!

Monday, it was very spring-like here!! I definitely wanted to get out and run a couple errands. My dad called me on his lunch break, and told me to call my mom to see if she was going out, so that I could bring my car down to his shop so he could change the oil, etc, and my mom could bring me where I needed to go. So I made arrangements with her, and when it was time to go, I couldn't start my car! The poor gal, she's only been driven about a handful of times this winter since I've been sick or getting rides from other people. I called my dad, and he told me he'd come to jump my car so I could bring it down to his shop still. He told me my battery died and that I'd need a new one, and that actually I should have needed one 5 years ago, considering my car will be 10 years old next month! I have to keep my car in tip top shape considering I will never be able to afford a new one! :(

Anywho, we dropped off my car at the shop, and my mom and I did several errands. I thoroughly enjoyed the lovely weather! It got up to 60 degrees! It made me long for spring so much more! Of course today, it's cold again, and we are currently in an ice storm! So much for the nice weather!!

I also emailed my PH doctor and his two nurse practitioners yesterday about my left lung, because it's been a bit achy the past few days. I wanted to know if it's still part of the recovery process from pneumonia, or if it might be something else. My doctor got back to me almost immediately, which was nice! He told me recovery is definitely a long process, and suggested another CT scan to make sure there isn't something else going on. So I called my PCP, and she has set one up for Friday morning. I hope there is nothing else, but at least I'll know one way or the other!

Today started off around 8:30am when I awoke to my oxygen machine turning off. We had lost power! It was kinda weird, since my area of Niagara Falls hardly ever loses power. I got up, put my eyes in, and tried to listen to the radio to see if there was any news about it. I was in my hallway outside the bathroom wondering what to do if it lasts too long, when I heard the heater click back on! So the outage only lasted about 20 minutes, which was good! My mom called to make sure my power was back on, and said if it didn't come on rather soon, she would have picked me up to go to my sister's house. I wouldn't have gone because Mandy and the kids are so sick!! My mom is just silly!! lol

So because I was up, I fixed some breakfast and went to read my online stuff that I read every morning. I was checking my email when I realized that I got a comment from Judi about my Artsy Essay contest entry, and I won!! I was very surprised, but so excited!! My dream date on Valentine's Day won a major award! hehe Well, the award is one of Judi's wonderful artworks. Which one, I have no idea, but I love almost everything she does! I also get to put a lovely award icon in my blog, which I will do whenever I'm done with this entry!

Ok, I must go to bed. I'm so tired, and I've made so many typos that I keep correcting while writing this. I can't wait to read it tomorrow and see how many grammatical errors there might be. lol

Saturday Stuff

Today wasn't too bad. I've been feeling a bit off lately, and I didn't think I'd get much done today, but I was happy that I did. Not that it was a ton of stuff, but it was stuff that I've been wanting to do! I did the few dishes I had so that I could clean all the fish containers. Their water levels were getting drastically low. I was afraid they'd jump out and take up residence somewhere else. lol Considering they are betta fish, I have 7 separate containers, one for each of them. They can't live together, well the males can't. They would fight each other! Although, I do have a female betta, one of 2 I had gotten from my friend. The females can be with each other, but when I had both in the same container, they were pretty nasty. I had to put them in separate containers, and then one committed suicide the next day. I hate when they do that!! Anywho, all the fishies got clean homes, which took about 40 minutes. Not too bad!

After that, I decided to relax in the bedroom and write out recipes on recipe cards to put in really nice bamboo recipe box I got from my sister, Lisa, for Christmas. I have been wanting to get rid of my cookbooks since they are taking up room! So I finished writing recipes from some of the printed out ones I had from the computer, and then I copied some recipes from one of the cookbooks. Now I just have a couple more to go, and I can get the books off the shelf! It was a relaxing thing I worked on today, which I kinda needed, too.

The weather here is still winter-like, but I think the next couple days will be a smidgen more spring-like. Monday will especially be more like spring! I think I will get out that day if I feel alright, since I need to go to the credit union, and I need a refill at the drug store. I just wish the spring-like weather will be more of a regular basis thing soon, but winter still isn't officially over for another couple weeks anyway!

Guess it's time for bed. Or at least reading, and then bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be an ok day, too!
